Setting up other Newsreaders
AAPT News Servers
The main AAPT news server is news.connect.com.au. This server may be used
from any location, but it is preferable to use the local news server in
your nearest capital city. Your local news server should be faster to access
and articles don't expire as quickly on local news servers.
- South Australia: news.ade.connect.com.au
- Queensland: news.bri.connect.com.au
- ACT: news.can.connect.com.au
- Tasmania: news.hob.connect.com.au
- Victoria: news.mel.connect.com.au
- Western Australia: news.per.connect.com.au
- NSW: news.syd.connect.com.au
Netscape Communicator version 4.0x and 4.5
- Open Netscape Communicator 4.0x.
- Select the Edit menu.
- Select the Preferences... menu item.
- Click once on the + next to Mail and Groups to display
the expanded menu (or double click on Mail and Groups).
- Click once on the Groups Server item to display the Groups Server
options.
- In the Discussion groups (news) server field, type the name
of your state's news server from the list of AAPT
News Servers at the beginning of this document.
- In the Port field, type 119.
- Click the OK button to close the Preferences window and
save your settings.
- Open Netscape Communicator 4.5.
- Select the Edit menu.
- Select the Preferences... menu item.
- Click once on the + next to Mail and Groups to display
the expanded menu (or double click on Mail and Groups).
- Click on Newsgroups Server
- Click on Add
- In the Server field type in the name of your news server e.g., news.mel.connect.net.au
- In the Port field type 119 and dont place any ticks in the boxes below.
- Click Ok
- Click the OK button to close the Preferences window and
save your settings.

Each window
offers a Help button that provides good quality assistance. Alternatively,
from the Netscape Communicator Help menu, select Help Options
and use either Contents or search the Index to find specific
information.
Netscape Navigator versions 2 and 3
- Open Netscape Navigator.
- From the Options menu select Mail and News Preferences
- Click on the Servers tab
- In the News (NNTP) Server: field in the News section,
type the name of your local news server from the list of AAPT
News Servers at the beginning of this document.
- Click on the Identity tab.
- In the Your Name field, type your first name and surname. This
will be added to the From field for the messages you send to identify
you more easily.
- In the Your Email field and the Reply-to Address field,
type your email address (username@yourdomain.com.au).
- If appropriate, type the name of the organisation through which you
have this account in the Your Organization field. If you wish, you
may leave this blank.
- Click OK to close the Preferences window and save your
settings.
- For Netscape Navigator version 2 only
- From the Options menu, select Save Options.

Microsoft Internet News Version 4.70
- Open Internet News.
- From the News menu, select Options to open the Options
window.
- Click on the Server tab.
- In the Name field, type your first name and surname
- If you have your account via an organisation, type the organisation's
name in the Organisation field. Alternatively, you may leave this
blank.
- In the Email Address field and the Reply Address field,
type your email address (username@yourdomain.com.au).
- In the News servers section, click Add to open the News
Server Properties window*.
- in the News Server Properties window, click on the General
tab.
- In the News Server Name field, type the name of your local news
server from the list of AAPT News Servers
at the beginning of this document.
- Click on the Connection tab.
- Select I use a modem to access my newsgroups.
- Tick Automatically connect to this server.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Under Server Port Number in the News Server field, type
119.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK to close the News Server Properties window.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK to close the Options window.
* If the server is already listed but you are having problems
anyway, highlight the server name under News server(s) and click
Properties then follow steps 5 to 9 to ensure all settings are correct.

information about using Internet News, open the Help menu then click
on Microsoft on the Web, then select Online Support from the
pop-out menu. This will take you to the Microsoft Online Support pages at
http://www.microsoft.com/iesupport/. Scroll down the Support Online
menu and select Internet Mail and News.
Outlook Express News
- Open Outlook Express
- From the Tools menu, choose Accounts
- Click on the News tab
- Click on the Add button to display a menu.
- Select News to open the Internet Connection Wizard.
- Follow the on-screen steps in the Internet Connection Wizard. The details
requested for News are very similar to those requested for E-mail and many
of the windows will already be filled in if you have previously completed
Setting up Outlook Express Email.
- In the Internet News Server Name window, type the name of your
state's news server from the list of AAPT News
Servers at the beginning of this document.
- Click once on the Close button to close the Internet Accounts
window.
Setting up other Newsreaders
If you're using another newsreader like Newswatcher or Free
Agent:
- Look for a menu or area called Preferences or Options
or similar.
- Within that menu or area look for a preference for news, news server,
NNTP server, NNTP host or similar.
- Type the name of your local news server from the list of AAPT
News Servers at the beginning of this document
- Make sure you save your changes.
