Hardware

Your AAPT Web service is hosted on a cluster of powerful machines each with 512Mb of memory and a disk server with 50 Gb of disk. The performance of these machines is monitored constantly and upgraded when necessary.

Server load and hardware and software failures are handles by a CISCO local director.

Server Software

AAPT uses Apache is Web server software developed by the Apache Group. Popular for its speed, expandability and fast development pace, its source code is available and can be modified to add new features easily. It offers superior and unlimited virtual domain name hosting, has good security and is well supported. Apache copes well with large loads and experiences few core dumps or memory leaks.

Apache is designed to be highly modular so that server administrators can remove modules of the server's operations which perform functions that are not needed to improve server performance. This modularity is a significant difference between Apache and NCSA servers. Third-party developers can develop for Apache easily using the extensible module API and web engineers can develop applications which previously used the slower CGI system.
