ConnectPay Real-time Payment Gateway

ConnectPay is AAPT's real-time electronic payment solution which allows online businesses to communicate with any bank around the world in order to process customer credit card payments. ConnectPay is based on Camtech's E-Commerce Payment Gateway (Camtech is the leading provider of Internet Payment Services in Australasia)

How ConnectPay Works

ConnectPay provides a secure means to transmit cardholder information from a consumer's browser to the acquiring bank, who then transmit that request, if necessary, to the cardholder's bank to authorise the transaction. During transmission, the cardholder's information is secured using cryptography so as to be inaccessible to the merchant, AAPT, or any other partner.

The E-Commerce Merchant Server that also provides transaction audit and other status services provides this secure transmission. The Merchant Server software uses digital certificate authentication to ensure that it is communicating with the Payment Gateway that provides the connection between the Internet and the Bank.

The Role of the Financial Institution

In order to accept credit card payments over the Internet, merchant's will need to have an agreement with a bank for them to the transactions and to arrange for the appropriate payments from the cardholder's account with the cardholder's bank.

This agreement is generally called a Merchant Service Agreement, and a Merchant Service Fee (which is generally a percentage of the value of the transaction) is charged on each transaction. This arrangement is between the merchant and their bank.

AAPT and Camtech provide the flexibility to allow merchants to choose their bank partner at any time without the need to change technology or Internet payment provider. Merchants are also able to have transactions on particular card brands forwarded to particular acquirers.

The Camtech E-Commerce Internet Payment Service accepts the following cards: Visa, MasterCard, BankCard, American Express, Diners and JCB. The following financial institutions have arrangements with Camtech to accept merchant transactions from the Camtech E-Commerce Payment Gateway: Commonwealth, ANZ, National Australia Bank, Westpac (Challenge Bank and Bank of Melbourne), St George Bank Group (Advance and BankSA) and BankWest.
