Once your order for a AAPT Web service is complete, you will receive a welcome letter that includes your account details. Specifically, you will be given the following information:
You are now ready to upload the contents of your site to the web server. In your FTP software, enter the FTP server name (hosting.connect.com.au) and your login name. When you connect to the FTP server, it will prompt for the required password. If your FTP software has a log window, you should see a prompt like:
331 Response to otp-md5 498 bu2301 required for username.
This indicates that you should use password number 498. Enter the requested password exactly as it appears - six uppercase words with spaces in between.
If you are using software that doesn't show such messages from the server (eg. Dreamweaver), you will need to keep track of passwords manually. Start with the highest numbered password on your list (should be 498 for new sites), then work your way down to 0. More information on One Time Passwords is available.
When you connect to the FTP server, you will be placed in your home directory by default (eg. /home/username). This is not where your web site should be stored. You will first need to navigate to /www.example.com/htdocs (where www.example.com is your web site address). You may be able to specify this initial path in your FTP software. If you have CGI scripts, you should upload them to the /www.example.com/cgi-bin directory.
If this is a new web site, your domain name should already point to your site. If you have moved to AAPT from another provider, your domain name will continue to point to the previous provider until you advise us that the site is ready to become active. You can use the alternative URL (provided in the welcome letter) to test the site in advance.
