Email Configuration for Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook Express is an Internet email software package for
one or multiple email accounts. You can also use Microsoft Outlook Express
News to read Internet newsgroups.
Checking that Oulook Express is Installed
-
Click on the Start button on your task bar (bottom left corner of your
screen)

Select Programs
-
Look for Internet Explorer menu item
-
Check if Outlook Express is in the Internet Explorer menu.
Setting up Outlook Express Email
-
Open Outlook Express
-
From the Tools menu, choose Accounts
-
Click on the Mail tab
-
Click on the Add button to display a menu.
-
Select Mail to open the Internet Connection Wizard.
-
In the Your Name window -
-
Type your name.
-
Click once on the Next button.
-
In the Internet E-mail Address window -
-
Type your email address.
-
Click once on the Next button.
-
In the E-mail Server Names window -
-
From the My incoming mail server is a· menu, select POP3.
-
In the Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server field, type <your.mailserver.name>.
-
In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type <your.mailserver.name>.
-
Click once on the Next button.

9. In the Internet Mail Logon window -
-
Click once in the circle to display a black dot beside Log on using: POP
account name·
-
In the POP account name field, type your <username> only.
-
In the Password field, type your password.
-
Click once on the Next button.
-
10. In the Friendly Name window -
-
In the Internet mail account name field, type <your account name>.
-
Click once on the Next button.
-
11. In the Internet Mail Connection window -
-
Click once in the circle to display a black dot beside Connect using my
phone line. If you are connected to a local area network, select Connect
using my local area network (LAN) instead.

Click once on the Next button.

12. In the Congratulations window -
Your copy of Outlook Express is now set up correctly for you to use
email via your account. Continue straight on to the next section Setting
up Outlook Express News. If you experience difficulties after completing
this section, please proceed to Troubleshooting Outlook Express.
Setting up Microsoft Outlook Express for multiple email accounts
Microsoft Outlook Express can be set up to work with multiple email
accounts if required. These instructions describe the steps involved.

Double click on the Outlook Express Icon on the Desktop.

If the Select the connection you would like to dial screen pops up, ensure
Don't Dial a Connection is selected then click OK.

If the Internet Auto Dial box pops up, click Cancel.
-
From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
-
Click the top button, Add.
-
Click the top item, Mail.
-
In the first screen, Your Name;
-
In the Display Name: field, type in your real name (for example Jane Doe).
-
Click on Next.

6. In the second screen, Internet E-Mail Address;
-
In the E-mail address field, type your full email address.
-
Click on Next.
-
7. In the third screen, Email Server Names;
-
In the top field, ensure POP 3 is selected.
-
In both the Incoming mail and Outgoing mail fields, type <your.mailserver.name>.
For example, mail.connect.net.au
-
Click Next.
-
8. In the fourth screen, Internet Mail Login;
-
In the Pop Account Name field, type your <username> only, for example,
jdoe
-
In the Password field, type your password (You may leave this blank if
you prefer.)
-
Click Next.

9. In the fifth screen, Friendly Name;
-
In the Internet mail account name field, type a short but meaningful name
to identify this email account. For example, <your account name>.

Click Next.

10. In the sixth screen, Choose Connection Type;
-
Select the appropriate method from the three choices; Connect using my
phone line, Connect using my local area network, or I will establish my
internet connection manually (the recommended method).

11. Click Next
-
12. Click Finish
Setting up Outlook Express News
-
Open Outlook Express
-
From the Tools menu, choose Accounts
-
Click on the News tab
-
Click on the Add button to display a menu.
-
Select News to open the Internet Connection Wizard.

Follow the on-screen steps in the Internet Connection Wizard. The details
requested for News are very similar to those requested for E-mail and many
of the windows will already be filled in if you have previously completed
Setting up Outlook Express Email.

In the Internet News Server Name window, type the name of <your.news.server>.
-
Click once on the Close button to close the Internet Accounts window.
Checking your mail
To check your mail using Microsoft Outlook Express:
-
From the Tools menu, select Send and Receive.
-
Select the service from which you wish to receive your email. Usually you
will have only one service, your CONNECT service, but if you have another
account, for example through a university, you may wish to receive your
mail at that address.
Sending an email message

From the Compose menu, select New Message
-
Complete each address field pressing the Tab key to move between fields.

Type the body of your message.
-
Click once on the button with the word Send and an envelope on it to send
your message.
Troubleshooting Outlook Express Email
You need only complete this section if your email is not working properly
after completing the section Setting up Outlook Express Email.

Open Outlook Express.
-
From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
-
Double click on the account you created in Step 10 of Setting up Outlook
Express Email.

Select the General tab and check the following items
-
Is your full name in the Name field?
-
Is your organisation name entered (optional)?
-
Is your full email address in the Email address field?
-
Is your full email address in the Reply to email address field?
-
Ensure there is a tick in the box beside Include this account when doing
a full send and receive.

Select the Servers tab and check the following items
-
Is <your.mailserver.name> entered in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) field?
-
Is <your.mailserver.name> entered in the Incoming Mail (POP3) field?
-
Under Incoming Mail Server, enter your <username> only (not your User
ID) and your password
-
Under Outgoing Mail Server, make sure there is no tick in the box beside
My server requires authentication.

6. Select the Connection tab and check the following items
-
Click once in the circle to display a dot beside Using Phone Line.
-
Click once in the circle to display a dot beside your dial-up networking
connection.
You should now be able to send and receive email.
