Email Configuration for Exchange/Windows Messaging/Outlook

These instructions help you set up Microsoft Exchange/Windows Messaging/Outlook to receive email via your account.

If you are using Windows 95a you will probably have Microsoft Exchange on your computer. If you are using Windows 95b you will probably have Microsoft Outlook.


Checking you have Microsoft Internet Mail installed

Before you can use Microsoft Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging, you must first check that you have Microsoft Internet Mail installed on your computer.

To check:

1.Click on the Start button on your desktop
2.Select Programs
3.Look for a Microsoft menu item.
4.Check if Internet Mail is in the Microsoft menu.

If you do not yet have Microsoft Internet Mail, follow these steps to obtain a copy:

1.Go to the Microsoft software download site at http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download/
2.Locate Internet Mail and News and follow the steps provided to download and install Microsoft Internet Mail.


Setting up Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Exchange

To set up Microsoft Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging:

1.Open Microsoft Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging.
2.From the Tools menu, select Services….
3.Click on the Services tab if it isn’t already displayed.
4.Is Internet Mail listed in the list of available Information Services?

Yes:

Click once on Internet Mail to highlight it then continue to step 5.

No:

Click once on the Add button to display the Add Service to Profile window.
Click once on Internet Mail to select it from the list.
Click OK to return to the Services tab then continue to step 5.

1.Click once on the Properties button.
2.Click on the General tab if it is not already displayed.
3.In the Personal Information Area

In the Full name field, type your first name and surname.
In the E-mail address field, type your email address.

1.In the Mailbox Information area

In the Internet Mail server field, type your mailserver name e.g., mail.connect.net.au
In the Account name field, type your username only e.g., jsmith
In the Password field, type your account password.

1.Click once on the Advanced Options button to display the Advanced Options window.
2.In the blank field, type your mailserver name
3.Click once on the OK button to return to the Internet Mail window.
4.Click once on the Connection tab.
5.In the Connecting to Internet Mail area

Click once in the circle to display a black dot beside Connect using the modem
Click once on the down arrow beside the Dial using the following connection menu to display the drop down menu.
Click once on the appropriate connection type to select it from the drop down menu.

1.Click once on the Login As button to display the Login As window.
2.In the Login As window

In the User Name field, type your User ID e.g., jsmith@connect.net.au
In the Password field, type in your account password.

1.Click once on OK to return to the Internet Mail window.
2.Click once on the Apply button to apply these settings.
3.Click once on the OK button to close the Internet Mail window.
4.Click once on the OK button to close the Services window.

Your copy of Microsoft Outlook (or Exchange) is now set up for you to use email via your account.


Checking your mail

To check your mail using Microsoft Outlook/Exchange/Windows Messaging:

1.From the Tools menu, select Check for New Mail.

To check your mail using Microsoft Exchange:

1.From the Tools menu, select Deliver all mail using
2.From the pop out menu, select Internet Mail.
