Netscape Communicator 4.x
Configuring Email for Netscape Communicator
Setting up Netscape Communicator version 4.0
- Open Netscape Communicator.
- Select the Edit menu.
- Select the Preferences... menu item.
- Click once on the + next to Mail and Groups to display
the expanded menu (or double click on Mail and Groups).
- Click once on the Identity item to display the Identity options.
- In the Your name field,type your first name and surname. This
will be added to the From field of the messages you send to identify
you more easily.
- In the Email address field and the Reply-to address field,
type your email address (for example. username@yourdomain.com.au).
- If appropriate, type the name of the organisation through which you
have this account in the Organization field. If you wish, you may
leave this blank.
- Click once on the Mail Server item to display the Mail Server
options.
- In the Mail server user name field, type your username only e.g., bbrown
- In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field, type mail.yourmailserver.com.au.
- In the Incoming mail server field, type mail.yourmailserver.com.au
- Ensure POP3 is selected as the Mail server type by clicking
in the circle beside it to display a black dot.
- Ensure the Leave messages on server after retrieval option is
not selected.
- Click the OK button at the bottom of the window to close the
Preferences window and save your settings.
Setting up Netscape Communicator version 4.5
- Open Netscape Communicator.
- Select the Edit menu.
- Select the Preferences... menu item.
- Click once on the + next to Mail and Groups to display
the expanded menu (or double click on Mail and Groups).
- Click once on the Identity item to display the Identity options.
- In the Your name field,type your first name and surname. This
will be added to the From field of the messages you send to identify
you more easily.
- In the Email address field and the Reply-to address field,
type your email address (for example. username@yourdomain.com.au).
- If appropriate, type the name of the organisation through which you
have this account in the Organization field. If you wish, you may
leave this blank.
- Click once on the Mail Servers item to display the Mail Server options.
- In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field type in mail.yourdomain.com.au)
- In the Outgoing mail server username field type in your username only
e.g., bbrown
- The radio button named Never should be selected for Use Secure Socket Layer
(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages.
- Click on the button called Edit
- Click on the button called Add if there is no mail server name listed.
- In the Server Name field type in mail.
yourdomain.com.au
- In the Server Type field select POP3
- In the Username field type in your username e.g., bbrown
- Select the tab at the top called POP
- Make sure there is no tick in the box called Leave messages on Server
- Click the OK button at the bottom of the window to close the
Preferences window and save your settings.
