Setting up the Shiva Dialer

The Shiva Dialer is the component of your Dial-Up software which actually enables your computer to communicate with other computers via your phone line. Use these instructions to check your settings if you are experiencing any difficulty making an Internet connection after installing the software.

Checking the Shiva Dialer Settings

  1. Open the folder containing you Dial-Up software.
  2. Double-click on the Dialer icon to display the Dialer window.
  3. Click the Properties button.
  4. Click the Locations tab.
  5. Click the General tab.
  6. Click the Modem tab
  7. Click the Service Provider tab
  8. Click OK to save these settings.
  9. Close the Dialer window.

Connecting to your account

Depending on the settings you have selected (see Checking the Shiva Dialer Settings, step 5) there are three alternative ways to connect to your account.

  1. Type your full User ID (username@yourmailserver.com.au) in the User Name field.
  2. Type your password in the Password field. Ensure Caps Lock is off.
  3. Select the location you are currently dialling from.
  4. Check the Number to Dial is correct. If you need to dial an extra number, for example 0, to obtain an external line from your phone your phone number will be displayed with extra digits at the beginning, for example, 0W 9281 4700. To temporarily dial a different phone number enter the new phone number here.
  5. Click Dial to connect.
