Changing Your Password in Windows 3.1


It is good security practice to change your password from time to time. Use the online Account Management Tools to quickly and easily select a new password then insert this new password in your dialer software. Following are instructions for changing your password in Windows 3.1.

Changing your password using Enternet version 3.x (Shiva Dialer)


  • Make sure all other applications are closed.
  • Ensure your modem is set up ready to make a connection.
  • Double click on the Enternet Dialer icon in the Enternet 3.0 Program Group from your Program Manager to open the Dialer window.



  • In the Password field, type your new account password taking care to use the correct case. The password is displayed as asterisks on-screen to keep your password private.
  • Click once on the Dial button to connect to your account.

    The modem dials in and makes your connection. It is important that you make the connection to ensure your password is correctly entered and accepted. If you receive errors, try entering the password again, taking special care that you are using the corre ct case. When the connection has been made successfully, your dial-up networking is updated to use your new password for all future connections.

    Changing your password using Trumpet Winsock


    Trumpet Winsock is a s hareware program that can make a modem connection to the Internet with Point to Point Protocol (PPP). When you have made an Internet connection using Trumpet Winsock you may then use other programs such as Netscape Navigator, email clients or newsreaders.

    The following instructions are for changing your password in Trumpet Winsock.

    1. Open Trumpet Winsock, either
      • Double-click on the Trumpet Winsock icon, or
      • Use the Search facility in File Manager to locate the p rogram TCPMAN.EXE then double-click on the filename to open Trumpet Winsock.
        IMPORTANT: If your program starts to dial automatically, press the Esc key on your keyboard to stop it. You will need to do this quickly.
    2. Update your password
      1. From the File menu, select PPP Options to display the PPP Options window.
      2. In the Password field, type your new account password taking care to use the correct case. The p assword is displayed as asterisks on-screen to keep your password private.
      3. Click OK to save your new password and close the Trumpet Winsock Setup window.
