Changing your dialup number under MacOS


FreePPP

FreePPP is provided with Enternet version 3.x software. It is compatible with both MacTCP and Open Transport.

Step 1: Opening FreePPP Setup if you HAVE installed the Enternet software.

  1. Double click on the Macintosh Hard Disk Drive icon.
  2. Double click on the Enternet folder.
  3. Double-click on FreePPP Setup.

Step 1: Opening FreePPP Setup if you HAVE NOT installed the Enternet software.

  1. Double click on the Macintosh Hard Disk Drive icon.
  2. Double click on the System Folder.
  3. Double click on the Control Panels.
  4. Double-click on FreePPP Setup.

If you can not find FreePPP here select Find from the File menu in the Apple toolbar menu at the top of the screen and search for FreePPP to check if it is stored in another location.

Step 2 Changing the Phone Number

  1. By default, the FreePPP Setup window is minimised and does not display the tabs. If the window is not fully sized, click once on the little arrow on the bottom left of the window to display the bottom half with the tabs.
  2. Click on the Accounts tab
  3. Click once on the name of your account to highlight it.
  4. Click Edit to display the Account editing tab.
  5. Type the new phone number over the old phone number in the Phone number field. If you need to dial an area code to connect to your POP, type it in the Phone number field too.
  6. Click OK to close all remaining dialog boxes.
  7. If you receive a message asking if you are sure you do not want to enter an area code for this account, click Yes.

Your AAPT dial-in phone number is now up-to-date.


MacPPP

Step 1 Opening MacPPP

  1. Double click on the Macintosh Hard Disk Drive icon.
  2. Double click on the System Folder.
  3. Double click on the Control Panels.
  4. Double-click on PPP to open the PPP window.

Step 2 Changing the Phone Number

  1. Type the phone number of your nearest Point of Presence (POP) over the existing phone number in the Number field. If you need to dial an extra digit before the phone number to obtain an outside line from the phone you are dialling from, or if you need to dial an area code, type it before the POP phone number in the Number field.
  2. Close the MacPPP window and select Save to save your settings.

ConfigPPP

These instructions guide you through the process of changing a phone number in Config PPP.

Config PPP is compatible with MacTCP but not with Open Transport.

  1. From the Apple Menu Bar, open the Control Panel
  2. Double-click on the ConfigPPP icon to display the ConfigPPP dialog box.
  3. Select your connection from the PPP Server pull down menu (for example, enternet or Interconnect).
  4. Click on the Config button to display another dialog box.
  5. Type the new phone number over the old phone number in the Phone number field. If you need to dial an area code to connect to your POP, type it in the Phone number field too.
  6. Click Done to return to the Config PPP... dialog box.
  7. Close Config PPP.

Remote Access

These instructions guide you through the process of changing a phone number in Remote Access.

  1. From the Apple Menu Bar, open the Control Panel.
  2. Double click on the Remote Access icon to display the Remote Access dialogue box.
  3. Type the new phone number over the old phone number in the phone number field. If you need to dial an area code to connect to your PoP, type it in the Phone number field too.
  4. Close Remote Access to return to the Control Panel, confirming the Save Configuration dialogue box.
